Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps, died while on duty .


Richard Hanlon answered his last call of service for the Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps on Tuesday, Feb 15, 2011, at the age of 83The 83-year-old was responding to a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday when he became unresponsive in his vehicle, according to Madison police.

Hanlon was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead."Dick was just a genuinely great guy," said Madison Lt. Darren Dachisen. "He just loved serving the people of Madison. He always had a smile on his face."

Viewing will be at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main St., on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

A 10 a.m. funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent Martyr Parish, 26 Green Village Road, Madison.

"Dick was the most compassionate, kind, caring, and gentle man the corps had," said corps Capt. Jim DeVico. "He never had a bad word to say about anyone and was the most respected member of our organization by all the emergency services in Madison."
