A Morris County man died and his wife was injured when their car struck a utility pole in Wayne early this morning, the second car accident in New Jersey involving a young couple this weekend.

Jorge Castro, 20, of Pompton Plains, died less than 30 minutes after his 1994 Mitsubishi Mirage struck the pole on Newark Pompton Turnpike just north of McClelland Avenue, around 2 a.m., police said.NJ EMT'S and Paramedics rushed the man to Chilton Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.


Castro's wife, Amanda Castro, 19, had been driving the car, and suffered lower leg injuries when she was pinned under the dashboard, according to police. Authorities said she was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson by NJ EMT'S and Paramedics. Her condition was not immediately available.
